NEKRO//MAKINA, Audiovisual Performance
Still by: Barnaba Mikułowski

NEKRO//MAKINA is a spatial audiovisual ritual in which death is no longer treated as an ending, but as a state that remains active. Sound and image are bound together within a system that persists beyond collapse, continuously shifting between control and rupture, density and erosion. A fixed audiovisual core provides structure and duration, while live electronic audiovisual interventions introduce instability, friction, and excess. Suspended between ritual and machine, NEKRO//MAKINA inhabits a post-terminal condition where endings have already occurred, yet the apparatus continues to operate. The work is conceived as a spatial and venue-responsive work, allowing both sound and image to inhabit and reinterpret the architectural characteristics of each performance space.

NEKRO//MAKINA was commissioned by Marcin Rupocinski for the Random Check 8 – UN-ORGANIC project

UN-ORGANIC is the eighth edition of an interdisciplinary artistic project developed since 2019 by the Random Check Media Ensemble (RCME) – a collective of artists affiliated with the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design and the Karol Lipinski Academy of Music in Wrocław along with invited guest collaborators. The project comprises four audiovisual compositions, performative actions, and an interactive multimedia installation.
The central theme of the Random Check 8 project is UN-ORGANIC. Our interest lies in what is inverted in relation to the organic (that is, the living, human, natural, biological, etc.) and at the same time impossible without it.

UN-ORGANIC is an exceptionally flexible category in process, continuously reflecting our relationship to nature and technology, to the nature–culture dichotomy in the 21st century, to the spontaneous hybridization of the worlds of humans and non-humans (including machines and AI), and to the prosthetization of human capacities for thinking and communication through increasingly “human” silicon-based solutions.

Media art and new technologies teach us to unlearn the classical image of a world divided into dead and living matter, the inorganic and the organic. UN-ORGANIC reverses the traditional logic of history: fixed points of reference dissolve into loops between humans and machines, nature and technology. New media return to nature — not as origin, but as an artificial and virtual image, shaped by art and culture from the very beginning around human needs. In this return, classical conceptions of nature and humanity begin to fade. The twilight of classical conceptions of nature and humanity is approaching. Will UN-ORGANIC save us from disappearance?
