DEATHSCAPES
2024
Electroacoustic spatial work · Fixed Media · Hybrid live diffusion (HADS) · Video · Duration: 13:45
DEATHSCAPES delves into the haunting realities of mass graves, illegal burials, and anonymous violence. The work confronts the brutality of the war on drugs in Mexico—an epidemic of death that transcends borders and reflects a broader, global condition of systemic violence.
Through digital synthesis, sampling improvisation, spectral processes, and live diffusion, the composition constructs a sonic space where historical memory and abstraction intertwine. Harsh textures and unstable spatial gestures evoke fractured landscapes marked by absence and erasure.
By relating these stark realities to a deeply personal meditation on mourning, DEATHSCAPES seeks resonance between collective grief and individual memory. Listening becomes an act of witnessing, where sound traces what remains when bodies, names, and histories are forced into invisibility.
